A great summer time route and very popular with local cyclists as it allows us to explore the back roads of Bohemian Sonoma County that are otherwise closed or flooded during the winter months. The bridge, making the road passable on Neely Rd, generally opens by the end of May. This route also offers a great deal more shade and in places, cooler temperatures. Mostly rolling with moderate hills but of course some short steeper sections, however, the gearing on our road bikes is suitable & for mixed level riders we offer Performance E-Bikes.

Starting at our Touring Center in Healdsburg, this ride travels south/west towards the Russian River and West County on Green Valley Rd. From there the route weaves directly west through the valley corridor towards the ocean.

Approximately 10 miles from the coast the route turns south and up into the coastal hills. There's a convenience store on your right just before you head up the hill on the Boho Hwy or if you'd like a few more flat scenic miles and to feel the coast a little- turn right on to Moscow Rd & go to Gold Coast Roasters & Bakery. The road follows Dutch Bill Creek through a Redwood forest and meanders toward a small 3 block town. One of my favorite roads for road biking as the hill snakes up gradually to a few steeper twisty rollers near the top. As you kick up over top, you'll reach the Bohemian town of Occidental - a central access point for cyclists riding the West County.

If you want to refuel, continue straight into town otherwise you'll head east into the town of Graton also known as the West County. The descent towards Graton is twisty with some traffic, so use caution and be aware of any cars following behind on the downhill.

The remainder of the ride travels a couple miles by bike path and heads back north towards Healdsburg via Westside Rd. The final 10 miles of the ride weaves along the inner coastal range along rolling terrain. This ride, like most in the county, changes constantly in elevation, but most of the elevation gain is accumulated at Vine Hill, Green Valley and the Boho Hwy.

We also have Garmin GPS units for rent at $20.00 for 1 day and $5.00/each additional day.

Important Reminders

This ride is suitable on our Trek Domane S6 carbon road bike or our Trek Domane 2.3 Aluminum/Carbon road bike. Some areas do not have cell phone coverage so plan accordingly. Many of the roads have potholes and rough pavement so pay attention in shaded areas.
