Route Overview

Sonoma, California Bike Tours & Rentals

42 mi.
1,582 ft.

This is considered an Intermediate to Advanced route and has a bit of elevation gain, a few good hills on Chalk Hill Rd but in general, the terrain is flat to rolling. As well, this route does travel through some higher traffic areas in the town of Windsor in order to get over to Chalk Hill Rd so it's suited for riders that have good traffic tolerance. This is a popular route for those staying in the town of Windsor or riding multiple days in the area and wish to stay in the valleys. Many local club rides begin at a park near Chalk Hill.

Route Details

A few good hills but primarily flat to rolling-this route is ideal for those that frequent the area looking to get in some mileage and great scenery without too much elevation.

Starting from Wine Country Bikes travel south on Los Amigos Rd, which parallels Hwy 101, to the town of Windsor. As the route skirts downtown you may encounter a higher volume of traffic by the highway on/off ramps. Once you turn onto Pleasant Rd the traffic will ease considerably. Chalk Hill Rd has two 1 mile long hills before it meets Hwy 128 in Alexander Valley. After that, there is only one other significant climb - 1 mile long at Canyon Rd, just north of Geyserville.

This is a great ride for those who want to mix some longer "flatter" days in with some more challenging days. It's also a great ride for those riding multiple longer rides but prefer less steep climbs.

The final portion of the ride is a flatter roll that takes you north, hugging the base of the Mayacamas Range and into Geyserville. If you need food/water before Geyserville, before you turn right onto Pine Flat Rd continue to the left 1/2 mile to Jim Town Store. If you are hungry in Geyserville, Diavola is a great restaurant with a nice patio in the back. Head north from Geyserville on Hwy 128 to Canyon Rd, up and over into Dry Creek Valley. Head south on West Dry Creek Rd. If you'd like to have lunch with only 5 miles left to your route, I'd suggest Dry Creek General Store - a popular lunch spot that serves local gourmet food. You'll often see numerous bikes leaning against the wall outside.

We also have Garmin GPS units for rent at $20.00 for 1 day and $5.00/each additional day.

Important Reminders

We recommend using a road bike like our Trek Carbon or Trek Aluminum. You should have good traffic tolerance for this ride as traffic volume can vary on different parts of the route or from day to day. If you are in a group, please ride single file. As well, it has become good practice to use bike flashers so any traffic you encounter can see the rider clearly.
