A Stop Outs Trip Day 1
I rode down to Uxbridge for a 09:30 start to find Alan, Sandra, Paul, and Jim waiting for me. We set off through North Hillingdon and over the Pole Hill Open Space to Kingshill Road where Lawrie was waiting. The party now complete we headed off to and through Northala Park to Oldfield Lane and the Black Horse PH where we gained access to the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal. The canal was followed towards London passing Horsenden Hill and crossing the North Circular Road on an aqueduct stopping at Jacks Cabin Cafe just before the Acton Road bridge for elevenses. We stayed on the canal through to Paddington where we crossed using the footbridge near St Mary Magdalen Church then on quiet roads to Lisson Grove thus avoiding the towpath at Little Venice which private.
At Lisson Grove we joined the Regents Canal past Regents Park to Camden where we left the towpath and headed up the High Street to Morrisons Supermarket where we had lunch.
After lunch we made our way by quiet roads up to and through Highbury Fields and Clissold Park to Markfield Recreation Ground in Tottenham. Markfield has a restored beam engine and museum with cafe, all closed until the next day!
We now joined the towpath of the River Lee Navigation north past Tottenham Marshes to Enfield Lock where we were directed to The Greyhound PH, a very welcoming refreshment stop. It was now a short trip along the river to Cheshunt and the Lee Valley Youth Hostel. This is an attractive purpose built hostel comprising of six log cabins.
We shared a large six berth with en suite facilities. and dined well in the hostel restaurant.
