A Stop Outs Trip Day 2
After a fine breakfast at the Lee Valley Hostel we loaded the bikes and were on the road, I mean the towpath, at around 09:20. It was a cool morning with an easterly wind which helped as we were travelling north and then east.
The route followed the Lee Valley past Hoddesdon, Stanstead Abbotts, and Ware to Hertford and a refreshment break at the Six Templars PH, a Wetherspoons pub.
Jim led us through Hertford to pick up The Cole Green Way, a disused railway line, to Welwyn Garden City. It we then made our way to Hatfield and lunch at Asda's.
After lunch we made our way onto The Alban Way, another disused railway, to St Albans.
The Alban Way is part of NCR61 and this was mainly followed through Chiswell Green and Bricket Wood to Watford. At Tesco's, Watford Alan and Sandra left us here to hurry home to release Deefa from captivity (of the kennels) while four of us stopped for tea.
Refreshed we continued on NCR61 to and along the Edbury Way to Rickmansworth where Paul left us. Jim then led Lawrie and I on a muddy paths to Denham Lock and on to Denham Village, across the Golf Course and back to Uxbridge in the dark with Lawrie breaking the 50 mile barrier.
The end of a good weekend away organised by Sandra.
