The curtailed, "4 County" version of LAW's 5 County Century. I rode with Pete and also Eric and his wife, Melanie. It was a really good day, although I was unable to keep up on the climbing sections of the ride. Notwithstanding, my legs felt strong enough that I am confident about the 1000k late this week. This ride was just fine without support, but it was easier because the temperatures were reasonably cool. As it was, we did not stop for a rest and snacks, etc., in the Ventucopa area. We did stop in Pine Mountain Club, primarily so that Pete could buy socks (he had forgotten them), as well as at Apache Saddle for Pete to top off his water at the USFS fire station there. Oh, and we saw Eric Larsen and his friend Brian on the end of their climb out of Pine Mountain club. They were going the opposite direction on their pre-ride of the 1000k! I pulled over the wrong side of the street at about mile 6.4 to give a slightly surprised Eric a "high five" on his way to catch up with Brian. The Garmin data was understating my speed and mileage during the ride, as did the metrics of the uploaded file. However, I uploaded the data for this file after deleting distance and speed data from gps data points using Golden Cheetah. I just went to the data screen, which provides a spreadsheet type view of the data, and removed the data under the columns for speed and distance. I did this for two rides, 10/1 and 10/2, and then "uploaded" them from my hard drive. The 10/2 file uploaded first, and seemingly took longer than usual. However, the system may have hung as the screen has apparently frozen with "1 to go...", and the word "Processing" under this listing. No matter; this file was unaffected, and the other file had evidently uploaded successfully.
