Finally rode the length of Cochran road near the river in South Fulton. It's a lovely(mostly) gravel road shaded by tall trees. I discovered a little concrete path that connects to the subdivision where the gravel ends(or begins in my case). The park in Campbellton on the river has a nice boat ramp with finished parking lot now.
Douglas county is very hilly. Rode lots of 15-20% grades in subdivisions, many with a stop sign or a cul de sac at the bottom. Had no trouble getting the first two tiles, they just required being on roads a bit out of the way. The third I missed. I used a gated track off highway 5 near Old 5 Notch road, and followed the left fork of the track since that's the way I needed to go and it would be near impossible to bushwack through overgrown pine forest with blackberries all over. I got to the end of the track and it coincided with almost where I needed to go but I was a bit north... I missed it by only a few feet. Oh well, now I know that track is there and i'll just have to head in the woods a bit at the end.
I took 6 liters with me at the start since I knew water sources would be sparse for many miles at the beginning. The Dog river reservoir park had a bathroom with running water, so I filled up there, and did have a store just off route at the junction of highway 5 and 166, but decided I didn't need it. Despite the heat I managed my effort pretty well and felt pretty good by the end. I was stopped by a train leaving Fairburn yard, so I went all the way around to cross at the Corning fiberglass factory and then back down again just so I could have shade to wait out about 5 more minutes till the train slowly went past. When I got across I was thirsty and low enough on water to check the church across from the yard. Thankfully they have a good faucet right on the side. Good to know for future adventures. After getting lots of water and dousing myself I felt terrific and rode home in good spirits.
