Saturday, March 25, 2017 First GWNN ride of the 2017 season.
Scott called this ride. The weather was perfect, warm enough, cool enough, just cloudy enough to prevent sunburns. This was probably the best weather of all of our first-rides.
We met at the traditional 1st ride trailhead - 3 Creeks and did the traditional ride - Blacklick Creek trail to Pickerington Ponds and back. 18 miles was just right for our winter-fallow legs. The pace was leisurely, the mood mildly euphoric. It was great to be back on wheels again. The ride was uneventful, no mechanicals except for Della’s slipping headlight. Sherm fixed it with some zip ties.
The most noteworthy event of the ride was the post-ride chow. Kevin suggested we try the BrewDog Brewery and Taproom, a new pub in Canal Winchester. We had heard that this place was always packed but we lucked out and got just ahead of the crowd. It was packed when we left. The taproom is inside of the brewery which has a futuristic sci-fi feeling. While waiting for our table, we sampled the locally brewed beers, mostly ales with a few oddball brews to keep things interesting. The staff is extremely helpful and the service is exceptional.
While our order got mixed up with another table’s, we were given more food to compensate. As to how the food was, I’ll ask others to chime in. Carol and I ordered burgers, fries and a Caesar salad. These were mediocre at best but the beers were interesting. Ask Sherm about the Scotch Eggs.
I believe that this pub is certainly worth a try. We’ll go there again.
