What a great day to bike! Started with the Saturday early miles. Nice steady pace. Bigger than usual group of about 15 riders. Then the regular Saturday and I chose to go up the hill with B group.
Mile 31.5 had a flat! So ended up solo. Rode easier after that knowing I would meet them as they returned. Then at mile 35 there was Jennifer with a flat. I lent her my CO2 inflator and that blew out her sidewall! Dang! She opted to stay and wait for her husband Jason, of the A group. I continued on. then met the WVC train returning. Unfortunately I did not turn around soon enough at mile 36.5 and could not catch them.
Then of course Westar didn't help me any going north bound. So I was solo again. Then near mile 49.3 a second B wave appeared so I stayed with them back to Elliot Market. Then road with the regular group the rest of the way.
Sort of. The A group was a bit faster and into a quartering headwind going west on Broadway. They were going a pace I could have probably held but kept doing an echelon out into the other side of the road! Mentally I did not want the challenge of being in that train for safety of cars and other anxious cyclists. So fell off. Eventually Josh got me as I knew he was behind so soft-pedalled for him. Then the 2 of us got Freddie. I think somewhere in there 2 others joined.
Turned north on Rainbow into the wind. So slower. Shame folks don't know that with quartering wind the leader has to ride on side of wind to allow others to draft! UGH.
Eventually to the Verrado climb where I had a nice acceleration up to Safeway, along with Freddie.
Then a group of about 6-8 of us headed with Josh up to White Tanks Library. Nice ride. Like me, many of those others wanted to then get a century in. So we continued from library, but I dallied and fell behind and never caught them. Had a great rest of ride although got a bit warm, tired, and hungry. I should have eaten and drank more.
