This was a FB event on invitation from "Win" (Uyen Nguyen), and was a mixed terrain training ride for her BWR next week. My achilles bothered me at times, but my bigger problem was that I am either in really lousy shape already, or I did a really poor job of managing myself during the ride. I think it was probably a combination of both, plus an adjustment of my normal peddling in an effort to protect against stretching my R achilles. The ride was beautiful for the most part, although there was some gratuitous climbing at the start which I could have done without, or would at least have liked to warm up more before hitting a steepish climb, followed by another at 18-20%.
This was my first time on "dirt Mulholland" and was pretty fun. On the descent, there was some road work going on, and they had just graded the dirt road which made it soft, so I rode a hard-packed single track, mostly on the edge of the road, with whoop-de-doos that the mountain bikers evidently use/made. That was a blast!
Win's group included Steve and Willie (who got separated early on), ? (who remembered me from some climbfest), and a guy new to me, another David, who, in spite of looking like a weightlifter was surprisingly strong climbing.
I had a tire pop and changed to a new tire and tube, and told everyone to go on. I may have been catching up, but I started to have leg cramps threatening ALL OVER, and also felt light headed, possibly a bonk or inadequate hydration, or both. So I slowed down to spin easy (while climbing Piuma, LOL), drank all my water, took salt tabs and calcium, and ate. I had pretty much recovered by the time I made it to Mulholland (after descending Stunt, where I got more water. Also, a guy on his Harley who was riding with a friend, and had a lady passenger, offered and gave me a bottle of water while I was on Stunt, which pretty much saved me. That and a couple of rice cakes that Win gave me at the start, plus the supplements. :-/

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.

Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
