Trek Farley 9.6. Mostly sunny, really cold - 9 degrees at the start, warmed up to 20+ by rides end, Westerly winds @ 11-13 mph but not much of a factor in the woods. Dressed just right, never got cold (or too hot) with plenty of layers of wool, Wolvhammer boots and Cobrafist pogies. Also wore my spandex balaclava and the merino gator.
I'm going to call this the first singletrack ride of Spring. There was a big organized group ride sponsored through the Rockford Park District. Great turnout, looked to be around 80-90 riders. I chose to go out early, started riding at 7:45 am to avoid the inevitable thaw. I ended up finishing my ride at the trailhead before the group ride started.
It was also my first singletrack ride on the new Farley. The bike did okay but it's definitely different from riding on the 29" full suspension, which is much more maneuverable. The fat bike also has a tendency to try and go straight in turns, which is something I'm just going to have to get used to. Probably due to the heavy rotational weight of the wheels.
Great workout, over 2 hours with plenty of climbing. I did 3 laps on the Founders loop, a full run on the inner and outer North sections, 2 loops of Big Wheel and a run both ways on the Prairie and Marsh trails.
