A ride on the NH Ice Cream Trail to Connolly Brothers Dairy Farm, Temple, NH. Ride begins and ends at the Police Station parking area in Wilton, NH. Main Street Wilton has a Town Hall Cinema showing silent movies, art house films, old classics and current hits. It also has a great Candy Shop. Try the Lemon Drops. Riding out of town find Carnival Hill park. There is house nearby generating more than it's share of solar power judging by the size of it's array, and Curtiss Dogwood State Park that as far as I can tell has no facilities, and no ready access, even on foot, maybe because it's a Botanical Park. Then the Climbing begins. Up Pead Hill, with good views of Pak Monadnock and N. Pak. Nearby off the course a bit find two Organic farms. Then down Dale to Curtis Farm. Weddings! Something about being "hitched"? Anyway, they have good views of Monadnock from the tents. On Upward! to Davisville, and Frye's Measure Mill, old time water powered maker of wooden oval boxes and gift shop of interesting stuff, with tours at the right times. Caution Horses. Upward to Connolly Brothers Dairy Farm. Best Ice Cream of the ride series so far. One of only two Dairy Farms on the trail. This ice cream didn't travel far or long to get to you, you traveled to it. Learn something about trees while digesting the ice cream. Then on to Ben's Sugar Shack, and across Rt101 Up to Temple. An interesting town common there, with nearby general store. Rumor has it the Inn is haunted. Heading down at last, a B&B is at an old general's house. Over to Wilton Center. Some history here, and Andy's Summer Playhouse. It's all roses at the finish.
A word about the route: other than a short run on Rt101 that has OK shoulders, the ride is fairly nondescript. Except for a short unpaved section of Curtis Farm Road that is ride-able by road bike generally, and at the "bottom" of Curtis Farm Road turning onto Rt31. You come down a steep incline, and around a sharp turn onto Rt31. Don't be going too fast, there are Rail Road Tracks just ahead crossing Rt31 that cross the road at just the right angle to catch a wheel!
