A ride on the NH Ice Cream Trail to Granite State Candy and Ice Cream, Manchester, NH. Ride begins and ends at the Bus Depot at Rt93 Exit5 in NH, Londonderry. Ride away from the Bus Depot on the Londonderry Rail Trail. Heading into the city cross paths with BSA Camp Carpenter. There is an interesting Scouting Museum at the Camp which is sometimes open to the public... but in recent years the signs along the road warning people off have become more prominent. Next into the city and a ride on the long one-way downhill Lake Ave. Didn't see the Lake? Good views over the Uncanoonucs though. Onto Elm Street in the heart of Downtown, where the Candy Shop is, and the newly installed Bike Share Dock! Riding North out of the city along River Street find Stark Park of General John Stark ("Live free or die; death is not the worst of evils." - only the Live Free or Die part fits on NH License Plates, as the state motto) fame. Found the FOURTH penny of the ride series just before the turn to the only Wright house in New England that is open to the public for tours (Zimmerman House - Frank Lloyd Wright 1950). Anyone can bike past it on public ways... just don't bother the neighbors, one of which has their own other Wright house down the street, but I'll let you guess which one it is when you ride. Beyond that to the Campus of Southern NH University. And on out of the city again, past a nice pair of Trackers. Riding Rockingham Road towards the finish, in a direction opposite that of the UNH Dairy Bar Ride, one doesn't get any encouragement until suddenly you realize this IS the Pitts. And then it's over.
