A couple firsts on this ride! Beef cows crossing the road in 2 different places. I actually stopped and waited for them to cross! Then on the way back I noticed what I assumed was a rider approaching in the far distance. Didn't seem to be moving too fast. As I get closer I could tell it was too big for a biker. Turns out it was yet another cow walking toward me on the road! I slowly rode by it as we looked at each other!
Great day to cycle. Cool air, plenty of smallish white clouds to provide some shade and something to look at in the sky. The wildflowers were still out, such as brittlebush, at higher elevation. Palo verde trees were blooming along with the mesquite tree and creosote bushes. What a joy to look at.
As I got near Vulture City a cyclist passed me going the opposite direction. Then as I stopped a bit on the road he passed by me going in my direction. Of course I had to catch up and chat this fellow up. Scott was his name from Wickenburg. Turns out he has ridden with West Valley Cycles and recognized me as someone on one of his WVC rides. We didn't know each other at that time.
I pumped Scott for info on cycling around Wickenburg, hoping to find some nice addition to this Vulture Mine route to get it to 200km. He said there wasn't much. Too much traffic on US 60 West for his liking.
We pedalled on up the climbs and since this was my last tune-up before 8k600km I Have Reservations, I punched my way up the climbs. This left Scott behind, so I waited at the tops for him. Then we would coast down the hill to the next. Finally we got to Wickenburg and he turned off to the west a couple blocks south of Safeway.
In the Safeway parking lot were a few old fancy european cars! Of course took a pic for Landon.
Scott and I met 2 groups of cyclists on the road, 1 Scott recognized , a solo rider. Then another group of 2 cyclists that he did not know. I met those same cyclists on my return to Tonopah.
This was also a ride to check-out my new arrangement of the shifters, having used Trek Bikes to raise the shifters a bit higher on the bars, in hopes that the finger numbness I got on the 600 k at start of month will not happen again. The new shifter position was much better.
Not any other wildlife to speak of, yet lots of pics of flowering plants!
