I didn't see a soul all day. Humbolt Rd was a treat all around offering vistas, solitude, and an intimate look at Lassen's mixed pine forest.
I was forced to push Robin up the final three miles due to road's steep rugged grade. It was a hot and long afternoon switchbacking my way to the top, where I was greeted by stiff cold winds and
a fast approaching twilight.
The first three miles down felt treacherous and I rolled along with extreme caution considering my remote circumstances and the setting sun.
The high south-facing slope was truly a site to behold as it is home to acres upon acres of Manzanita shrubs with a smattering of Oaks and sparse colonies of Aspen, a rare ecosystem to be sure. Night had fallen and I was chilled to the bone when I made camp at Cherry Hill CG. My tent, goose-down bag, and pad never felt better.
