I started out after a 1/2 day of work and having commuted to work by bike. It was 90 degrees. The wind was a very strong head wind. Unfortunately, that head wind remained even when I changed direction. The first 25 miles was a very strong head wind. I had to deviate from my planned route by about a mile or two in order to get a refill on water and Gatorade. I then rode east on Sahuarita Rd. After returning to the place of deviation where I had intended to turn east on Sahuarita Rd. I had about 2 or 3 miles of no bike lane and rough road - with a lot of traffic. I put myself into the red zone trying to get through this area quickly. I was hoping for the tailwind that should have been present. But I was either sheltered from the wind or it came in as a crosswind. The only time I had a tailwind, that I could tell was when I was climbing a 3% to 4% gradient hill. When I got about 2 miles or so from Sonoita Hwy I stopped because I was feeling nauseous. Aside from that 3 miles I had been careful to not put myself in the red zone, so I didn't think it was overworking. I did eat differently today, so thought that maybe it was that change. I felt that I needed to get to a restroom soon, but I was in the middle of nowhere. I was uncomfortable for the first 10 minutes or so, but calmed down. After another 15 miles or so, I arrived at a Walgreen's where I was able t use the facilities and buy more Gatorade. I decided that I needed to cut my ride short and headed home. It was just shy of 20 miles to get home. I was slow and felt weak all the way home. So, instead of getting the planned 94 miles I only made 70.
