Fully weighted and in the heat, this time on the Epic EVO instead of the gravel bike. 🥵
Very sweaty. I’ll probably want to plan to drink at least twice as much on the trip. The temps today are the same as what it will be for the trip but there was a cooling breeze which I suspect there won't be on the trip. Today didn't really feel that hot, especially not compared to last weekend.
The bike felt surprisingly good, even up the climbs. Going over 280 on the Ralston Bike Path, I was able to keep up with a roadie without trying, which felt weird because almost felt easier than normal.
The added weight did make maneuvering more sluggish and ponderous, especially the steering which didn’t feel as great riding one-handed. The bike also felt a little noodlie. But the suspension settings all felt great. So much nicer to be on full squish.
Nothing moved or rattled off which I’m super pleased about but also didn’t full send anything (as noted above). I rolled and forgot to bring any tools to make adjustments if necessary. Luckily they weren’t.
My old, more walkable, gravel/dirt shoes seem correctly setup now and felt great too. I should hopefully not need to bring a 2nd pair of shoes for off the bike.
I almost went to get a gyro for lunch but wanted to test this on the singletrack descent which it seemed to do great on.
UPDATE - I took the packs off so I could do some final bike maintenance and I see that the handlbar cradle actually dropped. I think it probably happened when I was trying to tighten the dry bag down and I bet I pushed it down without knowing. I liked that I could see my front tire but it was bending the cables a bit awkwardly. I decided to move the cradle back up and tighten it a little more. Hopefully it stays in place (and doesn't obstruct the view).
I went back out to get a gyro for lunch and it felt so much hotter for some reason. I suspect it's exactly how the trip will feel.
