I think we all got a better night's sleep which was good because we wanted to get an early start today. There was supposed to be rain in the forecast for the early afternoon that we wanted to get back before.
Ironically, it rained lightly on us as we were getting ready to start this morning. Luckily, despite the rain and clouds, it was still warm but thankfully not crazy hot like the first day.
After completing our content making, we descended down to the Bear Valley campsite for water and breakfast.
We talked about descending the way we climbed because the "back side" was really rocky and rutted when Emily and I descended it two years ago but we decided to give it a try. Yesterday, I rode part of the top section and it seemed pretty smooth, much smoother than last time.
The descent ended up being much nicer than last time and it was so much fun.
Over coffee and breakfast, not sure how this came up, Irene started to talk about the toy, Bop It! It was pretty funny when Irene and Anthony were trying to explain the best strategy for beating the game.
Once we left, we rolled through the very scenic Bear Valley and another super fun descent down Bear Valley Rd.
Our first bit of singletrack for the day took us off of Smithneck Rd. and onto the Boca Loyalton Railroad Trail. We almost didn't find it if it weren't for Ali spotting the sign next to the restroom.
After some more fire road and a stop at the Emigrant campsite to top off on water, we hit my favorite trails of the trip - about 10 miles of very flowy singletrack. I would totally go back to just ride more of that.
It was a great way to end a great trip that really didn't go nearly the way I expected. The super hot first day was about the only thing that met my expectations but I didn't expect to feel so destroyed from it. The cooler weather and rain was very unexpected.
Thanks to Emily Bei Cheng for organizing and planning! Thanks to everyone (old and new friends) for making this trip so fun! In the end having to swap the singletrack from day 1 to the final day today made for a really great end to the riding.
