Training objective: just an easy weekend if you race on Tuesday. Ride 2-3 hours nice and hard on Saturday, followed by a rest day on Sunday.
Met the morning group and we rode to the race venue. The race was fun – I started middle of the pack and took it easy the first little stretch, riding with the group for a while before picking up the pace. I chased a guy who was way in the distance with about 10 km's to go, and managed to catch him when we got about 1 km from the finish. It was hard work closing that gap! Anyway, I followed him in to the line, rather than sprint past. Turned out I finished 8th (results at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2K0sY1_SRXHdXpfa1Q0YmEwS2c/view).
Then had a quick coffee with the others before we carried on with our ride out to the Hartenbos Dam. As it turned out, we ended up doing much of Tuesday’s Hartenbos MTB race, but in reverse. Good recce, actually – I’ll definitely have to change my rear tire to something with more grip for some of the more technical, steep uphill sections. I have a pair of Racing Ralph EVO’s in the garage so will use one of those, instead of the Saguaro I still have on the bike from the 36One (minimal rolling resistance, but not a lot of tread).
