I made the mistake of writing down estimated arrival times for each town, times I'd need to meet/beat to make finish in time to catch the train home. It was too stressful! Around Pescadero I decided that I probably wouldn't make the train and resigned myself to take it easy, enjoy the day and the ride from Woodside to San Francisco. I fired up my music player on shuffle and found "Secret of Life" playing; "Since we're on our way down, might as well enjoy the ride." So I did. The ride got much better from then on. And, I made the return train with plenty of time to spare. I smelled Sea Elephants around Ano Nuevo (eeew), hawks, a few small birds that had been hit by cars :( and a fox that was scampering around a vinyard. Oh, and The Mystery Machine!
