Xingping -> Gongchen
I felt a bit of Day-jà Two today. Like Day 2, I was sleepy and a bit out of it thanks to the early wake up and the steep hike to catch the sunrise before the ride.
Also like Day 2, we found ourselves on trails that didn’t seem to get much use and eventually would be overgrown and we’d have to turn around and, backtrack, and re-route. We did find some nice dirt though.
The first bit of dirt was very rocky and it was actually another hiking trail to get up to the overlook we went to for the sunrise.
It was overcast all day and almost looked like it was going to rain in the afternoon when we stopped for lunch. And after lunch the wind picked up and after the final climb of the day, it actually started to feel cold.
We left the karst formations behind and the roads we were on in the morning felt like we were on a concrete bike path. Lush greenery surrounding us and very little traffic.
I didn’t see what the grades for the climbs we did because I was on the map screen but it felt like they were sustained 20-25%. On the big climb towards the end of the ride, I really wanted to stop and walk but I ended up riding all the climbs.
At the beginning of the day, after getting the ferry back over, we stopped at some juice stands. While we were waiting, two ladies got into a huge argument that just kept going and going. I would’ve loved to know what they were so upset about.
We also stopped for snacks and Daylen bought some underwear that was way too big for him. 🤣
Oh and I forgot, in the morning as we were getting ready for the ride, Emily asked if I wanted water for my bottle. She then proceeded to lift her full bottle off the bed but hadn’t tightened the cap and it came off and toppled spilling half the water onto the bed. Ironically it was on the same spot where I forgot a wet towel when we went for dinner and came back to find a wet spot on the blanket making this even funnier. 😬🤣
