What a great ride! I started with Roger as he rode the Desert Loop 400k brevet. Yep we started together at 6am, cold. Like the weekend before I had green woolie, woolie socks, leggings, shorts, jersey, bull vest, orange wind breaker, bike gloves, and light full-finger gloves, skull cap, and cycling cap. I was just the right temperature. In fact I did not remove the orange vest and gloves until just a few miles from the end! The sky was cloudy so no real sun, until right at the end.
Phon D. Sutton, mile 50.0, was full of water. Great phot op.
Offered to visit the in-laws, but they were busy, so followed the regular route. Mile 51.9 - 53.2 were new to me and wonderful scenery there inside Red Mtn CC. After that McDowell has some good road and not so good. Not real busy so that was nice.
Boy those last 2 legs were long: Lindsay mile 59.2 - 65.8 = 16.6
miles, and the Powerline Trail mile 65.8 - 74.8 = 9 miles. I think in the future I might try to break that 2 apart a bit.
The might mean breaking apart the McDowell section as well. How about as leaving Red Mtn CC at mile 54.2, continue south for 0.5 mile to East Hermosa Vista Drive. Take that west for 0.5 mile to N 56th St. Follow 56th St south to Adobe St ( about 2 mile), head west to Lindsay. Take Lindsay south to Powerline Trail. Ah shucks. I am not sure!
Another would be to take Lindsay south to Adobe to the west which turns into 8th St. Then somehow get over to Extension to go south.
Another would be to take Lindsay south 0.5 mile to E. Hermosa to west. Then S just a bit on Gilbert ( 0.1 mile) to E Lockwood st. Take that west 1 mile to Harris. Harris south a few miles to 8th St.
For Lindsay = Maybe from McDowell, head south on Val Vista for 4 miles, then west on Broadway for 0.5 mile to 32nd St and head south
