When I got up, I decided I wanted to go to Teh Mnt. Park. The weather was favorable. The legs felt pretty good from the start. Didn't take much to get warmed up. I had a tailwind on the way out to Water Canyon. I was sweating before I reached the start of the climb. A near ideal warmup. Being that I climbed this mountain more than a few times, I've memorized the sections. I was not paying attention to my GPS, but the landmarks. The start of the climb kicks up to 8% right from the start. First comes the residential area, then it goes into the mountain. I was in my 36x32 on more than a few occasions. I forgot how steep it gets at the start. Fortunately, the climb has a few sections of reprieve. Just as your able to recoup, the road kicks up again. When I reached the monastary, I knew that I had a mile or so to get to the park entrance. I was tacking on few occasions. I needed to save some matches for later. After reaching the entrance, I made my way up the alternate trail, to the left of the entrance. It kicks up and winds down to the main road. From there it was about 1/2 mile to the summit. Just as I remembered. It put me into the red zone for a while. I was in my smallest gear, tacking when allowed. When I made it to the summit, my HR was around 165 BPM. I took a few moments rest. Hydrated, then headed back. As I was descending, I was thinking of adding Banducci to the ride. My right knee was a bit sore. I told myself to wait till I make my way out of the park and up the kicker on Highline. At that point, it was apparent I should head back. Sore knee, sapped legs, and low on provisions. After that point, it was mostly fun and games to home. I put in a slight dig as there was traffic from behind on OTR return. Concentration was very good. I was in the zone and able to keep focus on the climb. Balance and form felt good, not great. I felt a bit of mis-balance when out of the saddle on the steeper sections. Felt like I was favoring my right leg. Ailments consisted of right hand numbness, some right knee soreness at the end of the climb. Gear is working well, no issues there. Other notes, no other cyclists and the park was relatively empty when I reached the summit.
