It was another hot one today. I got up early and was able to head out over an hour ahead of my normal schedule. When I got up, I noticed that my right calf was sore. Almost cramping, but not quite so bad. It lingered for a bit before the ride. Otherwise, the legs felt pretty good from the start. I made it to the summit of WTR in good average time. (My Garmin Tracking app wasn't working, so I stopped at the summit to try again. It refused, so I used Glympse instead). The trip to Keene was the usual soft pedaling bit. My stomach was a bit sore from the start. I took some Pepto before I left and brought some tablets too. I forgot to empty the #1 tank before I departed. I was thinking about it the whole time. I was trying to determine how long I can hold it, and where to make a pit stop. More about that later. There were lots of cyclists today. I think I counted 7 or more. The ascent went well. My calf soreness didn't escalate, so I went at a pace I could sustain. Burning my matches where need-be. The miles went quick. Doing the landmark counting. At the summit, I pulled over to call home for drinks. After meeting mom at the lockers, I swapped bottles, brought a third. Put some cooling spray on my calf. Just was I was about to get back on the road, I noticed my shifters weren't working. I noticed the cable had disconnected from the main juncture box. I ended up cutting one of the tie straps to give it some slack. From there, it worked flawless. The weather was getting warmer. Some haze in the sky, but it wasn't boiling. Suffice it to say, I was sweating. OTR went quick. Before the ride, I wasn't sure if I should go to WS. I decided to skip it. The heat would add a few miles to the legs. Banducci went well. Mitigating traffic all the while. I decided to go through the Alpine Forest. It went well. The legs felt good. No cramping. I was doing good tempo. Staying within myself. After reaching the summit of Banducci, I took a few moments rest. Ate half a Power Bar and then headed downhill. I stopped once to take a photo. Then made my way to SS. I was still thinking about a nature break. I was holding it since Keene. I knew there were going to be Porta-potties, so I hurried my way down to the farmlands. Sure enough, there were a few. I stopped, did the bio thing and headed back out. While making my way through SS, I was assessing my provisions. I had enough, so I decided to skip the Mini mart. The return trip went quick. Doing 18MPH most of the time. The last climb was good. I had enough matches. That last kicker hurt, but no stoppages. Once at the summit, I pulled over to finish the half eaten Power Bar. Checked the GoPro and headed back. From there, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was real good. No gremlins. Balance and form was good. Ailments, mild soreness on the stomach, that got better. Numb hands. Intermittent right calf soreness. None of which detracted from my progress. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, glad to see so many cyclists out!
