I was going to go out early but it was raining , then it looked like it was going to rain. Looking at weather report seem like it was going to be good the rest of the day even though the skies didn't look good. I alter the route to get in some new roads and see how they were. I like the route but it seemed as if it would be much further. I had to avoid Rte 70 because of all the expansion bumps for about 3 - 4 miles. I hope they repave the shoulders soon. I get out and Mr. Wind was waiting for me but was being friendly because he knew Mr. rain was going to join us later and then they were going to try and kick my butt. The new route is nice for the most part but realized on the return trip part of the route the shoulder is lacking and the big road construction trucks don't give you and room they try to run you off the road (Rte 537 Monmouth Rd). Other than that it is a nice ride with many small hills that will give you a licking if you are not prepared. The wind is weird out there too, it doesn't know which way it wants to blow. I get half ways into the ride and the skies open up and the rain came down in buckets for about 30 minutes 10 miles or so. The it slows down and comes down more manageable so I can see. Things are going well and I have 7 miles to go, the rain stops Mr. Wind is still blowing all over and then the bike feels like it is swaying or bending in the middle. I start to wonder is the bike finally giving up on me because of all the miles I have put on it. It starts to get worse as I power my way through the wind, I think to myself, "is this it?" I stop and look at my bike then I noticed a sound coming from the rear tire, you got it the sound of a leak... I find the spot the air is escaping from, so I begin the process of changing the tube. I find a place to park the bike then a place I can sit to do my work. Yup, a nice size piece of metal in the tire that punctured the tube. I changed out the tube and start pumping up the tire, my pump is taking its time but I do finally get it up to 85-90 lbs. I would have pumped it up to 110 or 120 but the side wall had a small bump so I didn't want to push my luck and have a side wall blow out. I will put a new tire on tonight or in the morning. I finally get home before the next easy rains, the ride was nice as I only stressed the legs a little. I finally took a bit of my own advice that I had been giving out this week about the saddle nose. I raised mine about 1/8th inch and it made all the difference in the world, my arms were not aching as they had been doing, even my butt felt a little better. now if my legs can start to feel strong again and my back stop hurting I will feel like a new man!
