Well that does it for the big mile training. I got up early, around 7:45AM-ish. I had breakfast, skipped the morning nap, then put on the gear, and headed out. The weather was warm. The sun glaring down. Winds from the North. I had mild soreness in the lower back, so I was keeping tabs on it. I felt so tired in the mind for the first 1.5 hours of the ride. I cruised down Keene, then headed back. No stopping. The mind was still waking up, even towards the end of the climb. Although, it didn't detract much from my performance. Making it to the summit in good time. When I reached the summit, I called home for bottles and met at the mail lockers. Swapped bottles once there, and headed out. OTR went quick. The legs feeling pretty good. I was thinking about my first feed of the day. I was going to stop at the end of OTR, but decided to continue. I made my way up Banducci. An invigorating but brief climb that woke up the mind, just a bit. The Alpine Forest went well. I kept the tempo nice and steady. No harsh accelerations. The road from Lemans to Banducci has been mostly complete. Although, no loose gravel, now compacted gravel into the tarmac. Bumpy, but passable. Will likely use the opposite lanes when necessary, when the GranFondo arrives. When I reached the summit, I pulled over and took a few moments rest. Hydrated, ate 1/3 of the Powerbar. I then headed downhill. Practicing the tuck. The trip to SS was moderate tempo. I was trying to keep the legs from getting overworked. The back behaved. It did have hints of soreness, but definitely mitigate-able. I made my way around SS and then pulled into the local park. The bathrooms were locked. I mixed some Cytomax with my water and then headed back on the road. (I also ate another 1/3 of my Powerbar). When I exited SS, I found a porta-potty and used it. From there, non-stop. At this point, the smartphone battery was down to 10% charge. So, the tracking software stopped working at that point. I ended up putting it into power saving mode for the remainder of the ride. I decided to add the Bear Valley entrance. The legs and lower back felt good. I was near max at the summit. I then headed downhill. Practicing a bit of the tuck. The last climb went well. The legs felt good and I was able to hold good tempo and a push over the summit. From there, I pulled over real quick to eat the last of the Powerbar. I was chewing as I rode. Route 202 was traffic mitigation. I made my way through OTR and Mariposa. I decided to continue on Mariposa instead of making the usual right turn on Country Club, just to see how the legs feel with that much mileage in them. They felt fatigued, but no signs of cramping. Nor the back. Concentration was good. Some brain-farts, no gremlins. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, mostly hand soreness. Some hints of pain in the lower back, as stated. Mitigated by stretching and being careful not to put too much torque into it, when looking behind, or stretching out of the saddle. Gear worked great. The smartphone battery didn't last, I should have brought the extended one. Other notes, I saw many cyclists today. I'd say over 20.
