Oh the Poudre and the halfway point of the canyon climb, ending at Rustic! Always a pleasure to see all the rafters & kayakers in the Poudre. Another hot day as Wahoo showed 104F in sun. Yet very enjoyable as I just pedaled away for the 3 time ever up here. Enjoyed just pedaling and site seeing.
530 start (rwgps is correct). A bit of pre-dawn. No stop at Hygiene so first was at Sandy's mile 37.3. Just before Sandy's as turning onto CO 34, there I became part the they yearly Triathlon event. Lots of regular folks doing it on all sorts of bikes. Fun. Lots of volunteers directing and guarding major intersections.
Oh that 10% climb past the Horsetooth dam got me this year! Too tired of legs and too much traffic, so I was worried of wobbling out into traffic so about halfway up that grade I stopped and used my super slow speed of walking! LOL
Down a wonderful descent into Boulder and a stop at a c-store that I passed up every time before. It was very nice and seemed not busy at mile 54.4
It was soon after this that I saw a rider going south on Overland and they had a K-Hound jersey! Cool.
On to Ted's Place, mile 62,8, and tornado and water. Fueled to tackle Poudre.
Stopped for pics along Poudre and to watch rafters! Nice time. A bit busy on traffic at lower part. Today was a Saturday where in 2023 it was a Monday, I think?
Made it to Rustic, of course I was hoping it would be a bit sooner so around every corner I kept wishing it were so. Of course I was playing the game of not looking at Wahoo.
Got water, ice cream cone, Starry and ate some of my snacks.
Then downhill! The wind was mostly blowing up the canyon today although sometimes it was down canyon.
Pulled into Ted's Place at mile 125.3 again.
Then in Ft Collins mile 135.8 I did my Safeway deli stop and had #8 Chicken nuggets)( 2 hugh pieces), potato wedges ( guy filling up my plastic take out tray was so nice and kept saying you look like you need all of this and stuffed it full) and summer slaw (like coleslaw with with more veggies. YUMMY. Att all the slaw, all but 2 bites of the chicken. Brought home a number of wedges. Soent 25 minutes there.
Went by Hygiene and stopped at Niwot mile 173,5. They were having a blues band setting up to play on a big stage and folks with their chairs in parking lot right by c-store.
Then ride home! But this time I had to end by riding back from hotel UP McCaslin to Boulder as Day 4 leaves town that way.
Great day to relive the Poudre!
