Finally the last day! Another climb into Lefthand! Looked forward to Jamestown. Today Paul F was going to ride a perm of the same route but he is riding with Vernon and 3 others and wanted a later start. I wanted to get some miles in before sunrise, so unfortunately no riding with Paul this time, unless they catch me.\
The temps were down a bit and more like normal, so it was a fantastic climb up Lefthand! Shady most of the way up, many more bikes than cars and all in singles or at most a group o 3! Got to Jamestown and talked to a local cyclist there that explained that above Jamestown is what cyclists call Super James, a steeper section that they guy said I would certainly be capable of riding.
Then downhill. I saw Mike S going up! He later texted that he did the Super James part. Mike was a DNF on day 1 so was just our riding. So much fun! At the time I was passing him I had started to really push the downhill so it was too long past for me to stop and I just kept going,
On to Carter Lake and again a revisit of an old friend so I knew what it was like. The 3 RUSA riders that pulled into the Marina Store at the top of Carter Lake were new to the route and were surprised by the climb, as I was 2 years ago.
As is usual, the descent from a climb is a reward and this one was a 48.5mph reward! Fun, but had to hit the brakes at the bottom before the T.
Then around and up to Little Dam on a fun pretty road. Then the climb drag up to Masonville store again. This time I stopped a looked around. They have an outdoorsy old wedding area, water cooler set out for cyclists, etc. It was in this area that I kept meeting 2 other riders on tri bikes. They were doing 75 miles today! They were fast.
Then back to town! This time with the cooler air and even some clouds I really enjoyed the 10 mile ending with the loop out to west of town and back. In fact it was the best part of the ride this year unlike in 2023 when it was miserable.
I did stop at that mile 111 store to get my last water!
What a great day to ride! Unfortunately no snacks or pizza at end of ride this year. I did stick around waiting for Sonja and Bjorn to come and there was Thomas and a couple other riders pulling up.
Paul and Vernon never caught me. I really enjoyed this Day 4.
