This is the Silver Falls Plus ride. Start from Coolidge Park in Silverton. The initial 11.1 mile loop is usually completed after doing the Silver Falls main loop. Chose to do it first, as a nice warm-up. North to northeast wind was already apparent by 9 am. The initial loop goes through the Gallon House covered bridge then back into Silverton. There are two primary ways to reach Silver Falls from Silverton. The first takes Eureka Ave, which becomes Victor Point Rd. It is around a 7 mile steady climb before dropping down to Highway 214. The other way is staying on Main St, which becomes Cascade Highway. I believe the latter way is a little easier. At mile 22, the route heads east on Highway 214. There are a few rollers for the first 3-4 miles. The serious climbing begins at mile 26.7 and continues for 3 miles to the Silver Falls Scenic Viewpoint and a nice rest stop. The first summit, about 1/4 mle past the viewpoint, is the 2500-foot climbing mark. Then it's a nice 2-mile downhill past the south falls entrance. This is followed by a short, steep climb then a short downhill past Winter Falls. One more climb follows to near Upper North Falls. The next few miles consist of a series of long rollers. The crosswind/headwind did not help. At mile 37.5 is the Drakes Crossing Rural Fire Dept and the end of the heavy climbing (2900 feet total to here). The final 10 miles is nearly all downhill, except for a couple short flats and rollers.
