Bicycle Adventures Crater Lake Tour Day 1 - Aufderheide Ride. Shuttled from Eugene to the McKenzie Community Center. Finally started shortly after 11 AM, after getting all the bikes prepped. Already in the 80s at start time. Crossed the Belknap Covered Bridge then took a couple of back roads to the Aufderheide (FS 19). Fairly lengthy climb to the top of Cougar Dam then several miles of general flat along the west side of Cougar Reservoir. Rode through the Rebel Fire burn scar. The long climb began at mile 23 (Frissell Crossing Campground). The nearly 7 mile climb covered 1100 feet elevation gain. Late-lunch was at the Box Canyon Horse Camp. Instead of continuing south to Westfir, the route was altered to an out-and-back. Missed the turn at Mill Creek Rd to re-join Highway 126. Instead, continued on McKenzie River Dr. to the highway (an extra 2.5 miles) then another 2 miles west on 126 to Harbicks.
