Route 66, Day 22: The windy midpoint of Route 66

Amarillo to Adrian, TX
The winds returned today, getting up to about 15mph right on the nose, which, while it kept our speed under 10mph, we were able to paceline a bit. We stopped by Cadillac Ranch on our way out of Amarillo:

Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, US. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm. The installation consists of a row of ten Cadillacs (1949–1963) buried nose-first in the ground.

SO.MUCH.PAINT on those cars! After the Cadillac Ranch we spent a couple hours riding parallel farm roads away from the highway. Again, slow going on the dirt but totally worth it to be away from the highway noise.

Although, we did get a lot of encouragement today from passing truckers and travelers honking and waving at us.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
