Route 66, Day 24: Roadrunner, tarantulas, snakes, kite, and flat no. 5

Tucumcari to Santa Rosa, NM

More riding on the highway today with a LOT of shredded truck tires on the shoulder where we were riding. Sure enough, we (Megan) got a flat from a piece of tire wire; that's flat number 5 of the trip. Aside from that it was a lovely day with wide views of the high plains and plateaus. We reached 5,000' elevation for the first time today; that's higher than our cabin. We spotted a road runner (the second one of the trip), a couple of tarantulas, two small snakes sunning themselves on the road, and a kite (raptor). We had a pretty long stretch of very remote dirt road, a real treat: quiet and beautiful views. We spotted what looked like a weather balloon or alien mother-ship to the southwest of us. It was visible for most of the ride; kind of weird.

  • TCX History

    Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

    Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
