Vickie's notes posted after the finish:
There were 39 official finishers, and 5 who started but did not finish. Of the five, Russell Cammell completed the entire course, but was hors delai. This was an honorable effort. There were two DNFs in the pre-ride and two DNFs in the official ride.
Thanks to the entire volunteer team:
Robert Sexton and Anson Moore for pre-ride support; Bob was at the top of the 75 mile hill with drinks and snacks, and he volunteered even though he was already registered for the official ride. Anson Moore put out a great lunch spread for the 10 volunteers on the pre-ride out at Peachtree, making us all very happy.
Brian Johnston for his help on Friday night check-in and bike inspections
Bill Monsen for managing the drop bags and driving transport; also for his sag work on Saturday night.
Bruce Fritz for reprising Bob's role at the 75 mile mark, with many beverage and snack choices.

Personal ride report:
I had a little digestive trouble the first day and wasn't able to ride as fast as I would have liked; Imodium fixed me up, but I had to be careful about eating and so was in a calorie deficit for the day, unable to ride as hard as I would have liked. I made it to the coast (about mile 185) by the end of twilight, but I would have liked to have been able to see Turri, Los Osos Valley, and Price Canyon Roads (say, to mile 215) before dark.
I had a long stay at the overnight control, where I had a huge dinner of lasagna and mac & cheese, paired with a nice bottle of Union Jack! :-) The shower and close to 4 hours in bed were also very "restorative"!
I left DFL on Sunday (same as Saturday, haha), at 7:46 a.m., and my only goal was to enjoy the ride, and to finish before the end of civil twilight. I managed both (and retrieved my car from the Oxnard Transit Center before dark, too).
I chatted briefly with the few friends I managed to catch along the way, and I took the opportunity of riding alone to explore to areas.
The first was the now closed bike & hike trail between Refugio and El Capitan State Beach Parks, Aniso Trail. (Miles 305.4-309.4) What a loss that is! The trail no longer goes through (although an intrepid soul could likely circumvent the fences, at least, at present ;-). Erosion caused the cliffs along the side of one section of the trail to sheer off, and there is significant exposure where someone could just go over the side if they were oblivious to the danger.
I also took a short, mixed terrain alternative through a small section of Hope Ranch. On the map, if you don't look closely, it looks like a road, Vieja Dr., goes through, but it is a dirt path between miles 326.9-327.2.
By the time I left the Santa Barbara control I was feeling like my old self, and was able to pick up the pace to get in before dark.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.

Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
