With winter growing near and my anticipation of another great snowshoeing season, I decided to do a little pre-scouting. I loaded my pack and spent an incredible day on Mt Spokane. As you'll see there isn't much snow here just yet but it's definitely on the way. I began my journey at the hairpin turn approximately 1.5 miles up from the ranger station. Was able to visit Mt Kit Carson, Day Mountain and the summit of Mt Spokane. The day was a bit longer than I had anticipated due to coming upon a lost dog. I managed to find the owners and return him however, I still had about 1.75 miles to travel on trail #100 and it was already dark. With my small, (and inadequate), headlamp I set off. You talk about "pitch black"; deep woods at night void of snow, yeah it's an experience. All in all the day was fabulous with weather that called for an air stagnation alert there was very little wind and the sites were spectacular.
