A great challenging Randonneur from Jasper, south and taking 93A and joining the main highway at Athabasca Falls. Continuing south with a check point at Sunwapta Falls and then to the Columbia Icefields - a challenging 4km climb up Sunwapta Pass with some strong, cool headwind. Very busy at the Icefields chalet, but water refill and a snack was needed. Be prepared to pay twice the usual price for everything - including a bar, milk and juice! Then get ready to fly back to Jasper with overall elevation loss; still some short climbs to overcome! Another checkpoint at Sunwapta Falls. Overall 1900m of elevation gain! It’s always great to get to the mountains to ride. The entire route is newly paved except for perhaps only 1.5km that is older pavement. This makes the ride very smooth with no frost heave cracks!
