Nine riders with me on today’s route. Heat Index 101 but was in the low eighties at start.
Today’s route was one created by Past President Mike Bivens, which used Billingsley Road extensively in the initial portion of the ride.
Due to the heat, humidity and the heat index of 101, I called an audible and told the group that we would bypass Marshall Corners Rd and use the Indianhead Rail Trail as a bypass to taking Bensville Rd.
It took about a 1.5 Miles off our route.
We had about 10 miles in by the time we had reached the WaWa.
About 14 miles into the route I could see and feel that it would not be my day.
Recovery was harder, even when slowing down.
Thanks to the group for waiting for me to catch up.
At the second Rest Stop ( Dash In) I told the group that I would be doing an easier pace so they could go on ahead.
The IHRT @Bumpy Oak I started cramping.
Pickle juice and several mustard packs later I climbed Bumpy Oak Rd but cramps came back.
Ohbike member Michael Dong came to my assistance and offered to ride back with me.
Sonja called to check on me by the time that I was into the last mile.
Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you. Better prepared next time.
