Yesterday I got up early to leave. After packing all of my stuff, I took the small kerb drop into the carpark from the grass and something snapped. I had broken one of the screws holding the rear carrier up, which holds my backpack. I wondered if this was a sign to finish my trip. My bike had clearly had its run at it was time to hang it up. But before I stowed it in my rinko bag to take back to Ahikawa to get fixed again, I figured I'd try the local car mechanic. Not only did he fix my bike, but he refused payment. His wife came into the shop and they both asked me questions about where I was from, what I was doing, etc. The shop owner then took me back to the hotel to get lunch together at their restaurant. I got the char siu pork bowl again. He paid for my lunch. That brings us to today! I took the main road back to the coast (finally!). At Monbetsu I took pictures in front of the big crab claw (or is it a lobster claw? I think it's a lobster claw). I continued through, past the big lakes that you could barely see from the road. At one point I saw some cows and was able to take some footae of them from only a few metres away whilst they ate their hay. I made it to the campsite just after midday. I signed in, set up my tent, then went to the local onsen. The onsen itself was really big, with indoor and outdoor sections, an ice bath and a sauna. I didn't use the sauna but I used everything else. After my onsen I stayed in the relaxation room all evening. I had their steak dinner and charged all my things whilst I did some video editing. I went back to the mosquito infested campsite when it was pitch black outside. The lack of streetlights was a bit freaky, but we got there.
