Intended to do a relatively chill road ride of around 118 miles, with light east winds and a fairly cool day for summer. What I got instead was a crash and a feverish and frantic search for a lost item.
So I was riding along a street on the east side of Griffin, early enough that not many cars or people were out and about, and had already done several dead end streets. I was riding on a street that cut through to a highway but also had a dead end that I intended on doing. There were several parked cars along the street and a man with his dog on a leash in his front yard. Across from them was a single dog that was headed my way and I kept an eye on him. I was coasting along on this flat street at 12mph and out of nowhere from around a parked car another dog came flying into my path and there was nothing I could do to avoid him so I slammed full on into his side. I instantly went down on my elbow mostly but a little on my hip and knee and ankle. The worst scrapes were on my elbow, my hip was very minor and my knee and ankle were small scrapes. Thankfully joint and bone wise I was unscathed and the bike was okay. The guy watched this whole thing happen and asked if I was okay and I said I was fine, just a few scrapes. I got back on and rode down to the end of the street. It was fairly private there at the end where a pipleline crossed over and so I took out my wallet which had band aids and I applied them as best I could on my damp skin(After drying as much as I could). My sunsleeve was pretty torn but the area where the scrapes happened was still covering the bandages so I put it back on. My right glove was torn badly but I didn't scrape my hand thankfully. I tried using the pipeline to connect to the next dead end but it looked like someone's yard at the end so I went back and then did it the regular way.
Did a lot more miles working my way out to I-75 including exploring a new business park that now has a mostly complete Amazon fullfillment center and a new connection to a subdivision that I planned on riding anyway. Soon after I rode a new bridge over the Towaliga river in a different industrial park on the other side of the interstate which ended at a cul de sac where the new construction is. I rode back over to the highway and rolled into a gas station. This is when I discovered my wallet was missing. I was very upset as well as running low on water. I still had a bottle but was already a bit behind, although it was still early in the ride, only 55 miles. I felt great and so I headed off in the opposite direction to retrace my route. I did do several dead ends that I had done before but not all(in hindsight I should have) and didn't see it anywhere but I figured that it had to be somewhere at the end of that street near the pipeline. But unfortunately when I got there, and used the pipeline to connect the two dead ends, I didn't see it at all which really surprised me. I then checked the street itself but still nothing so I had to accept that it was truly gone.
I ended up riding straight into Griffin on this main highway(GA 155 Jackson road) and bumbled my way through to Carver road park where I got water at the bathroom sink there as the water faucet was off of course. Rode back home on Ellis road and the ride itself was really fast despite all this, had a light east tailwind coming back which helped. I rode very easy the whole ride and other than the two major mishaps, this was a wonderfully enjoyable ride.
