It was cold and windy, did I say cold? We had a smaller field today either most got scared of the early weather forecast of freezing temps and possible snow or are doing tomorrows Race in Elwood, NJ. I met my goal for this race and it wasn't done the easy way. My goal was to finish with the peloton, each race I got closer and closer. I was doing great the first lap until we headed down the home stretch and there was an attack that I could not answer and got dropped. I didn't give up! I kept pushing as hard as I could about 4 miles later two other racers caught me. I had enough left to jump on their wheel and we worked hard together. The Peloton had pulled away even more from us but we kept at it, about the 1/2 way on the 2nd lap we caught another dropped racer and he jumped on. Now we were 4 and we all worked hard together. Heading into the last lap we had chopped down some of the lead. One of the racers commented we can bridge the gap, they were a good distance a head of us too. We dropped our heads and picked up the pace. I didn't think I had it left in my legs but I didn't want to to let the guys down on each pull we started to close the gap down. One of the guys said we can do it and we were in the upper 20's and lower 30's. The idea was to catch them before we hit the turn and into the wind. We didn't do it but they were within distance, After my pull drifting back I lost the wheel , but one of the racers noticed ans lowed just a bit which gave me enough to sprint to grab the wheel. We finally bridge the gap and was in the Peloton! I was hurting big time but was relieved. The pace had slowed which was great for me but there were several attacks which I was barely able to hang but i wasn't the only one. They all were short lived because of the strong head wind. We all hit he last turn down home stretch and it was a sprint in. I was happy just to be there so there was no big sprint from me nor a few that were behind me. Great day for me!
