Today Rick and I braved the elements and set out to challenge ourselves with some climbing repeats up Mt Spokane. I met Rick at the Wandermere Starbucks where we then headed off to Mt Spokane via Children of the Sun Trail, Peone and Day Mt Spokane roads. Again, there was quite a strong SSW wind blowing, (as is frequent this time of year), making the ride out to the base of the mountain both quick and pleasant. We made our first climb to the Selkirk Lodge snowmobile parking lot and then followed with a few repeats between Bear Creek Lodge and the same parking lot. Good training indeed. A recommendation for those that travel this route is to assure you have some type of light wind blocking jacket. The descent can be quite cold especially after the work required on the climb up. In addition, and as we experienced today, the weather can change rapidly to include wind, rain, hail and/or snow. Be prepared!
Upon completing the climbing repeats we now had a chance to repay the assistance received going out, (tail wind), on the way home, (head wind). Perspective; the wind is "nature's free resistance training tool"...for any avid cyclist I think that's all need be said!! We're very fortunate to reside in a place that provides so many cycling opportunities. Rick did and outstanding job and I very much look forward to our next adventure.
