We arrived at The Lambert Arms to find some loiterers already there drinking coffee. Having extracted them outside twelve of us followed Frances out along the lane under the M40 to Lewknor. Frances led us north west on quiet roads through South Weston and Adwell before turning south to Benson. The roads gave fine views across the Oxford Plain with the Didcot cooling tower on the skyline. We passed through the outskirts of Chalgrove and villages with evocative names as Berrick Salome and Berrick Prior the arrive at The Waterside Cafe on the Thames at Benson.
Leaving Benson we made our way through Ewelme and up through Swyncombe to Cookley Green through woodland carpeted with bluebells en route to lunch at The Fox and Hounds at Christmas Common where we found a table in the garden laid for us..
After a relaxing lunch we headed past Aston Rowant Nature Reserve to the A40 then downhill back to the Lambert Arms where we had tea before driving home. Great scenic route, great company, brilliant weather.
