Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.

Worked hard on this one! Just missed beating Martin. I know, you were just toying with him. Coulda easily taken him. Just didn't want to hurt his pride.
If you look closer, you'll see that the ride where I was only a minute behind Martin was a couple weeks ago. I had ridden this one before. I was nearly a minute slower this time.
Yea, I didn't look at the date.
When I do rides on my trainer, I rarely warm up first. I just jump on and go. Last night when I got started, my quads tightened up a bit and it took a while to get them to loosen back up.
I had downloaded Pico de las Nieves a couple weeks ago, but hadn't ridden it yet. Sure glad I hadn't, as I certainly wouldn't want to have to do it twice! 😰
Oh man! That hurts to think about it. I find that if I don't warm up, I fade at the end of the ride. When I get into a ride slowly, I get stronger at the end. On BigRing, you can warm up prior to starting the ride. I usually warm up on those rides for about 10 miles.
Valley of the Tears looks like a tough ride, too. But it's only half as long.
Yea, those look unpleasant. I'd have to get really psyched up for them. You know, do an indian war dance before getting on the bike.
Yeah, I see there's an option to warm up. How does it work? Do you see anything on the screen during the warmup?
I usually just take it easy for the first couple miles of the ride to get warm. I think Martin must do the same, as I'm often able to hang with him for a few miles before he leaves me in the dust.
You just get the ride up and spin before you hit the space bar. It does show the data on the screen below. When you hit the space bar or stop riding and let it coast to a stop, it starts the ride.
Even though it's shorter than Pico de las Nieves, Valley of the Tears looks even more unpleasant. Those fuchsia looking sections, as I'm sure you've figured out, are often over 15%. That's when I'm glad to be on my trainer, because I'm going so slow I'd tip over outside!
I might try enabling warmup for my rides. Can you hit the space bar any time you want to start? On rides that start flat, or with a descent, I really don't need to warm up.
Also, do you get credit for the miles you ride during your warmup?
Yes. You can start it anytime and you get credit for the miles. Also the warm up doesn't count against the ride. The ride starts when you hit the space bar
Valley of the Tears is probably a good one to try it on, it starts off with a steep climb.
Yea. BigRing also has some short warm up rides. I've not done any of them but, they look like good warmups.
There's actually one called Valley of the Tears (warm up), but it doesn't look much like a warmup ride. 6.7 miles with over 1500' of elevation, and it starts off climbing. 🤔
Ouch. Don't think I would use that one as a warm up.
Maybe they should add another ride called Valley of the Tears (warm up) (warm up)!
I'll probably do them back to back one day this weekend. I'm kinda OCD like that...
😂
I was wondering when I was warming up for today’s ride if you’ll be able to use the warm up feature since you have to download the rides to your computer instead of live streaming them. Are you linked to BigRing’s website when you’re doing the downloaded rides.
