Wow! What an awesome event! Really enjoyed the inaugural Wayne State University Baroudeur 100 mile bike ride. Almost 1200 participants. There were so many unique sights along the way that the time just flew by. Doesn't feel like we did 102 miles. Mass start at 7am right in the middle of the Wayne State campus (forgot to start my GPS until we had gone about a mile). South on Cass Ave to downtown. Northeast on Lafeyette. Then over the bridge to Belle Isle. Nice loop around the island. Back across the bridge and up Jefferson along Lake St. Clair to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club turnaround. Back to Detroit. Then up to Palmer Park. Back downtown. South down the Detroit River to Grosse Ile. 9 miles around Grosse Ile. Then retrace our route back to Wayne State. We started with a hard charging paceline of about 20 around Belle Isle. Dropped about half of the group coming off the bridge. Lost 6 of those when we hit the first rest stop. Roy and I on our recumbents, along with 2 upright bikes, led the way after that. Dropped one of the upright bikes going south out of Detroit. The three of us were first to finish the ride. We did stop twice at rest stops. Awesome volunteers everywhere we went. Great lunch with beer and music. Put this ride on your list for next year. There are 20, 50, 62, and 100 mile courses.
