Left a bit earlier than the day before but not early enough as I got home right at dark. Singletrack took longer than I would've expected. It would've been mostly flat and easy if maintained but the trail is mostly used by horses so there were thousands of sticks and logs and debris and fallen trees over the trail. In some places it was an unhoppable log every 20 feet. In addition, whoever routed the trail up and down the hills, didn't know what they were doing, they just went straight up the grade, and the hillside is eroding like crazy making it even more difficult. 20-30% grades in some places. But finally I emerged onto the dirt road. Went left instead of right(like my route directions which turned out to be a bit longer in the end. Went through Dauset trails the short way because I didn't have much time left in the day to mess around. The way I planned coming back I snaked north and south in search of dirt roads, so it wasn't a direct route, and I was cursing myself but unable to reroute as I wasn't very familiar with the roads enough to avoid highways, so I stuck to the planned route. A storm was developing just to my north and it never caught up with me but cooled things off a lot. Temps were in the low 80s most of the ride. A few key signs were missing and I just went with my gut each time, and got lucky and didn't have to backtrack. Had plenty of water due to lots of good sources on this route, but ran out of easily accessible food(still had dry pasta and oatmeal) about 30-40 miles from home. Plus I was racing the sun so I upped my pace and burned out of my reserves by the time I got back to town, so it was slow going up Robinson and on the path. Very tired at the end but had a great time.
