Long ride Sunday 20th September 2015.
I take the lead for this "Nominate" ride. Followers are: John Hare, John Owen and Chris Kinsey.
We climb through the Chalfonts to our elevenses stop at Master Chef, Amersham. John H has his usual bacon sarnie. At South Heath he bids farewell and heads in the general direction of Gt Missenden.
The rest of us continue upwards into the Chilterns. At the summit we stop for a breather by the Crong radio mast. We don't get too close as there are dire warnings of serious injury or death for anyone entering the compound. It's nice to know that health and safety is uppermost in the minds of the South Central Ambulance Service who own this site. We leave this impressive structure for the long descent into Tring. Crossing the Great Onion, we stop for lunch at the Valiant Trooper at Aldbury. It's about one thirty and there is quite a throng, mostly of fellow cyclists, making the most of the good weather.
After refreshments, mostly of the liquid kind for John and Chris, we start the return. There is a fox up ahead, and he doesn't notice me until I've nearly drawn level. I've either got a stealth cycle (something I definitely didn't have before changing the rear sprocket), or we have a fox with a hearing problem. We cross the Great Onion again and up the valley towards Ashley Green, stopping at Blackwells for some more liquid.
Through Whippendell Wood, we encounter the only part of the route affected by the recent wet weather. We return home through Northwood Hills and Ruislip, with first John then Chris leaving me to pedal back to Hayes.
A perfect day.

Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
