Start at Harriett Park parking lot and take the path along Plato Blvd going north east until you cross under Hwy 52 (Lafayette Freeway) and then take a sharp right turn going southeast parallel to the East Lafayette Frontage Rd. The Piram Park trail continues past the St Paul downtown airport hangers, Great Western Recycling and EMR Northern Metal Recycling. A few sections take you through wooded areas and onto new bridges that bring you to the Kaposia Landing Fields. Take the bridge going southwest over the railway tracks as you enter the River to River Greenway trail. This trail is a mixture of wooded areas, parks and suburb streets. Initially you have a steep climb of nearly 400 feet as you leave Kaposia Landing. After crossing Robert Street on Wentworth Ave you will come to a left turn on Humboldt. WARNING, unless you have a mountain bike you may want to avoid the trail through Marthaler Park as it's torn up and under construction. The eastern part is packed down, but the western part is fairly loose dirt not too easy to ride with a road bike. For now take a detour by going south on Humboldt Ave and take a left on W. Kraft Road and you'll bypass the construction. Look for the trail to continue south and southwest past the Garlough Park Disc Golf Course. You'll ride past the Dodge Nature Center onto Marie Ave. W. Follow path going south along Warrior Drive to Hwy 110 Frontage Rd. Go west on the Frontage road to Market Square in Mendota Heights. Cold Stone Creamery is waiting for you. Swing northbound on the path running east of Highway 35E. Go under Marie Ave through a large culvert and take a quick left just before the tennis courts to arrive on Lilydale Road. Take it into the Lilydale Regional Park. You can take Lilydale Road and then Water Road or stay east of them on the trail in the woods which has tall trees. You feel like you are "slaloming through the trees" for a spell. Pretty neat. You end up under the Smith High Bridge. Look for an old train trestle bridge. You'll see some fantastic views of the train bridge that turns on the Mississippi, views of downtown St Paul and the river. Passing the St Paul Yacht Club as you make your return to Harriet Park. Total distance is about 14.6 miles.
