The rest of the Great Divide Basin crossing was uneventful, with a stretch of gravel and then a long paved BLM road that dumped us out to highway 287. The busy highway shoulder with strong winds kinda sucked, but we did make it to Rawlins eventually. Not the most charming town, at least not the east side that we encountered first- but it did have a perfectly fine grocery store for a resupply. We ventured to the slightly-more-charming downtown area for some Thai food which was a novelty, and then sat in the town library for a bit to catch up on digital chores in air conditioning. We planned on getting a few more miles out of town in an evening ride, but the few turned to 25 when we realized that our gravel road had been newly paved with perfect smooth asphalt. It was still pretty windy but the riding was glorious! We camped next to a mucky creek on land dotted with cow pies, and watched evening storms roll past to the north.
