What an absolute blast.
Was invited to cruise over to Mountain's Edge park to join in on one of two Adobo Velo rides. I fired a text over to my boy Mark and we agreed to meet up at Anthem Hills Park and ride over. Sure it meant an extra early start but I knew in the long run it'd be worth it.
Once we met up with the Adobo Velo guys we set off. We had a great ride despite a couple small hiccups. Had one flat, had a couple others peel off, and couple others missed a turn. Overall though the ride went really really well. Awesome time.
For me, I'm pretty happy with myself. It's been a while since I've done a century and the last time I did I ended up with awful cramps. Knowing that, I made sure to grab a bottle of Gatorade and banana at every stop while also topping up my two bottles with ice and water. Made sure to keep myself fed. At one point I felt I was getting behind the 8-ball on fuel. Gulped down some extra snacks without over doing it. Thankfully, the extra fuel kicked in perfectly.
The ride was an absolute blast. Formed up a great pace line after the Red Rock flyby leading into Desert Foothills. The chill but fast ride down Alta to downtown. The amazing surprise of learning it was National Public Lands Day and entry into Lake Mead was FREE! The Warm Springs freight train. Taking the lead and pulling everyone along Pebble. So many great moments.
Sadly all good things must come to an end. Mark and I decided we'd leave the larger group at LVB and Starr. From there we continued south on LVB. Before heading east on Volunteer, we both desperately needed a quick stop to refill our bottles and take a little breather. Cruised along Volunteer at a steady 17 MPH pace before doing, what seems to be becoming, our traditional ride ending climb up Hampton.
After saying goodbye to Mark, I continued over to Atchley to climb Somersworth. Think I've mentioned it before, but I like this little climb versus staying with Anthem Pkwy because I ride Anthem Pkwy all week.
Rolled up to the house and relaxed outside in my front yard under a tree enjoying a slight breeze enjoying some cold water before heading inside. Now I get to chill out for the rest of the night before, hopefully, going to bed early.
