N'Emonda. Sunny, warm, increasing variable and gusty winds from all over. Big GABA group of 20 riders, rode together for the first few miles until mile marker zero then it spread out and I was NOT in the front group. Still a great ride for me along with Frank, who I rode with a few weeks ago on the ride to Arivaca. We stayed together up to 2:10 when he turned back. I continued on to 7,000 ft marker at around 2:40.
While I don't think this is as hard as rides in the Rockies, it was definitely a challenging ride. I finished with no water and the wind gusts on the descent were hell on my deep section carbon wheels. I think with the right prep, I could have done the whole thing, as I felt really strong and the altitude had zero effect on me.
Good reconnaissance ride for me and I learned a lot. Riding alone, I will probably ride at a higher wattage and average speed. I also learned where to get water and what to carry with me. Fun ride, can't wait to do the whole thing next week. Scenery on this ride is breath taking, definitely on par with any ride in the Rockies (but honestly, not as hard).
