Holy hell, what a day. V tipped over when taking off at a stop sign, and bike is clicking now for some reason, but Maui didn’t get hurt when she fell out and V only got scraped and bruised, thankfully. Den dealing with painful saddle sore prob. More hills today and worst at end. Had to shelter under tree grove to wait out a huge storm, like a hurricane, got soaked,but luckily two the big trees that got uprooted and crashed across the road were 150 feet away. 2 locals didn’t wanna wait for county services to arrive to remove trees so they grabbed chainsaws from their truck and carved up the two big trees themselves so traffic could pass (we had already hiked our bikes through the forest to get around the trees). Rode by James Monroe’s Ashlawn and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estates, such pretty terrain but with god-awful traffic, impatient drivers, zero shoulder to ride on, and being super fatigued 60 miles in…it was hard. Ended in a hotel, rest day tomorrow needed and deserved. Hotels here expensive - $200/night here (Google had said it was $120) and we luckily got the last room. Big ass pizza reward!
