*** Garmin died so I had to grab Melinda's ride *** Wanted to do a century with 10K of climbing and the only way to do it without dying on such hot day as today was to go out to the coast. We ran into a problem right away as Sawyer Camp Trail is closed for repairs until mid-July. Pacifica and Half Moon Bay were a little foggy but still very nice. It got a little chilly at points and we thought maybe not bringing any extra layers was a mistake but in the end it was fine. We had a snack in El Granada before getting onto the Coastal Trail. The temperature was still pretty pleasant until we started climbing Higgins Canyon Rd. Then it was pretty hot unless you were in the shade. Ran into Irene going the opposite direction just as we finished that last Stage Rd. descent into Pescadero. Unfortunately we only saw each other at the last moment as we were flying by. We should've turned around. If it wasn't for the u-turn at the beginning of the ride, I think we would've seen each other in Pescadero, assuming they stopped there for lunch. When we got to Pescadero, I thought I'd plug my USB battery into my Garmin to charge and a) found that my Garmin was already down to 20% and b) my USB battery had no charge left. DAMMIT!! I tried looking for a USB battery all around town and found nothing. I was dumb and didn't think to charge it with a plug in charger while I was eating lunch. My Garmin died shortly after leaving Pescadero so this is Melinda's recording. Lunch was delicious. Arcangeli had a Korean BBQ Pork Belly Sandwich that's probably the best special they've ever had. The climb up W. Alpine was hot just as I thought it would be. That took us a while because of the heat. Dropping down in to the valley it was warmer but the wind was also cooler. We stopped at Robert's for some Gatorade and ice cream. At the last minute (before the ride), I added some climbing in Emerald Hills to get us to 10K of climbing. It turned out to be the highlight of our ride and really turned the mood around for us.
